OUR WORK

Our Projects

Our aim is to do scientific study of near by areas, around melghat tiger reserver and around our city. So we are working on following projects.

01

Roadkills ecology through mobile app ARRM

Under this project we are collect data about the road kills that happen on specifc areas where heavy vehical traffic is there.

For this we have dedicated team of valaunters , which monitor roads on regular basis through out the year. After collecting the date we analise and categories according the species, bird, mammals etc. This data is submitted to Forest Department so that they can take further actions.

This data collection is done using an in house developed mobile app, named ARRM ( Animal Roadkills and Rescue Monitoring App), This Mobile App is developed by us and to monitor the road kills. Using this App all the data are analise scientifically.

02

Protected areas mapping and identification of high potential wild habitats

Under this project we are trying to map the potantial area which can become potantial habitates of wild animal, along with this we are also keeping our watch on birds , as same area might be suitable for bird habitat also. Under this project we search habitats containing grassland, water, big trees, green vegetation, forest like areas.

After mapping this area we do regular survey about which animal regularly visit this area. This is done through out the year. As every season brings lots of changes to that perticular spot.

And this brings new species to come to this area. We are currently monitoring 2-3 areas. We are taking notes about the migratory birds which come to these specific areas, as they are also important part of the local ecology.

03

Grassland ecology to save large & small carnivores

Along with identifying and mapping potantial wild habitat, we are monitoring grassland also. The grassland is also important part of bird eco system and survival of small carnivores.

This is because there are lots of migratory raptors which feed on specifically grasslands. We are trying to save this grassland.

Western Vidarbha landscape comprises of 6 districts and unlike Eastern Vidarbha features lots of open spaces, woody areas and Grasslands harbouring different wildlife habitats and species. We want to assess these habitats to evaluate status of few critically important species entirely dependent on them viz: Indian Wolf, Chinkara, to start their future conservation projects.

04

Melghat Conservation Project

Relocation of Villages.

Helping interested/proposed relocation of Villages still inside MTR.

Stall feeding

Grazing is one of the worst problems in Melghat TR. We want to try different activities to stop grazing pressure and stall feeding can be one of the most effective and a win-win experiment.

Connectivity

We want to identify and assess different adjoining forests where future tigers can disperse.

100 @ Melghat

With an increased area, Melghat TR is now spread over 2300+sq.km, We want to increase our efforts to see Melghat TR harbour minimum of 100 tigers.

05

Interstate connectivity of Tigers in Western Vidarbha Landscape

We want to explore and assess the potential habitats for interstate connectivity of Tigers for two regions:

a) Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh

Melghat-Satpuda: Two of India’s geographically close biggest TRs area wise, comprising about 4500+sq.km. We want to establish link between these two TRs to see future exchange of Tigers.

Melghat-Pench: Again, two TRs in one big contiguous forest, connected with each other not so long back. Now the link has been broken. We want to re-establish the link by means of identifying potential habitats/forests within these two reserves.

b) Maharashtra-Telangana

From Yawal to Kawal We want to identify, assess and establish potential tiger habitats between these PAs to see Tigers disperse in this landscape and expand their range South-Western.

06

Critically important species ecology & conservation

We are planning to save the critically important species. Also during that we will try to save their habitat.

Under our programs we have been working hard to save the wild life, wild habitat, grasslands. Using our different project data we are able to prove and convinence forest department to work on specific areas. We are also joing hands with forest department to help them where ever we can.

The data we submitted to forest department regarding roadkills was appriciated by Forest Department. Also they assured to take necessiry steps to make sure road kills numbers are less.
